Honey Pot Ant

Honey Pot Ant This ant's abdomen is hugely swollen with nectar to the size of a grape! Honey pot ants serve as living larders for the ant colony. Other ants stroke them with their antennae to make them release the stored food. They are so valuable that raider ants from other colonies will try to steal them for their food stores. Australian aboriginal people consider these ants a sweet delicacy.
