Shivaji Bhosle, also known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhosle (Febr 19,1627 - Mar 4,1680) was the founder of Maratha empire in western India in 1674. He created an independent Maratha kingdom with Raigad as its capital, and was crowned Chhatrapati ("paramount sovereign") of the Marathas in 1674.
Shivaji established a competent and progressive civil rule with the help of a disciplined military and well-structured administrative organizations. He revived ancient Hindu political traditions and court conventions, and promoted the usage of Marathi and Sanskrit, in court and administration. His thoughts and deeds were inspired by the teachings of his mother Jijabai and teacher Dadaji Konddev. He always thought ahead of times and was truly a great visionary.
